English for NGOs (September 2016 – June 2017)

Purpose:
To provide English training for national staff of international NGOs and senior staff of national NGOs working with consequences of humanitarian crisis in the East of Ukraine.

Objectives:
Within this project, Ukraine NGO Forum expects to increase English language proficiency specific to communicating and working with international donors, as well as enhance the NGOs’ operational quality. Specific language materials and course curriculum developed for NGOs will be made into an Open Education Resource, therefore will be available for wider NGO community in Ukraine and globally. The positive side-effect of the course is vibrant and active communication among participants from different NGOs that lead to building trust, networks and partnership within Ukrainian NGO community.

Overview:
Ukraine NGO Forum in cooperation with Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine launched “English for NGOs” course on January 17, 2017. After the application process, 205 employees from 64 national and international NGOs were selected to study English within the project. The course takes place in 7 Ukrainian cities:  Kramatorsk, Severodonetsk, Sloviansk, Kharkiv, Mariupol, Dnipro, Kyiv. All participants were divided into 14 groups according to their schedule preferences and entry English test results. For the purpose of the project, a specific 4-month course curriculum “English for NGOs” was designed that corresponds to B1 Level of English knowledge. Course materials are available for everyone and shared among broad NGO community.
